| Hmmm...the bracelet, eh? I can see both sides of the issue. It was a sweet move for Jacob. I think he wanted to give Bella something to remember him by because he was trying to come to terms with the fact that she wanted Edward over him. It was his way of allowing her to always have a piece of him with her (just like Edward hinding pics of himself and what-not under her floor boards when he left her in New Moon). Then with Edward giving her the charm...I didn't look down on him for this. I see it like this --- Edward wants to give the world to Bella, but she won't accept anything from him. This obviously annoys him and hurts him to some extent, especially when he sees her accepting gifts from another guy. So I honestly don't think he was trying to steal the spotlight from Jacob, he just wanted an excuse to give her something special. I think the charm was extra special to him because he mentioned giving Alice and Esme some of this mother's things. But he hadn't given the charm to either of them, so it must have been close to his heart and for him to give it to Bella must have meant a lot. He probably wanted to give it to Bella long before, but was afraid of her turning it down, and I think Edward is afraid of rejection from Bella. Remember how he was pleading her to "be nice" when he proposed to her? So yeah...I don't think it was meant to be a slap in the face for Jacob. It was just Edward saying "can I please do something nice for you too for a change?" _________________ Edward Cullen dazzles me.

| | I like your reasoning Dianater. Bella would never have taken that from Edward if it wasn't for Jacob. Its really sad that he had to tell her to be nice when he proposed. |

| | As do I. Bella is so annoying sometimes. Although marriage at her age is still looked down upon, just, still, she shouldn't care if she cares about Edward as much as she does. |

| Yeah seriously, she always saying, "I WANT TO BE AN EFFING VAMPIRE!" and she doesn't care that it takes away her life because she loves Edward, and she wants to be with him forever, but when it comes to marriage, she's like, "Oh noooo, I can't do that!" She can be a real idiot sometimes. _________________

| Yeah, I don't really get why Bella's so unwilling to let Edward into her life in a permanent manner. She's so unwilling to receive gifts, to get married. I, however, have grown up in a household with parents who have been together my entire life. I can't really completely understand Bella's point of view as to her objections in relation to Charlie and Renee splitting. I don't really know, but I have friends who have similar situations and they don't ever want to get married because of what marriage did to their family/parents. So... I dunno. Do you think it would be different if it were Jacob asking, do you think?
But back to the topic at hand - the bracelet. I COMPLETELY agree with Gabriel on this. I think it was a very fair thing to do on Edward's defense. A previous boyfriend once gave me a beautiful necklace that I love to this day, but my latest boyfriend felt really uncomfortable when I wore it. He even told me not to wear it, and eventually gave me a necklace from him to replace the other so I wouldn't wear the necklace from my previous boyfriend. I completely understand why, though. It's a gesture and it's physically showing to the world, "this is from Jacob" instead of, "this is from Edward." Besides, it's a charm bracelet which are meant to have different charms on them to represent different things. It's a symbolic thing, I suppose. Bella's heart being the bracelet and the two pieces of her heart that belong to each boy. One part of her loves Jacob, and the other loves Edward. It seems only fair to let Edward put a charm on the bracelet to show, "I love her, too." _________________

| I agree with a lot that is said in this thread. Poor Edward can't get a gift for Bella but Jacob can. Sometimes Bella can be very confusing and crazy about things. Like getting married to Edward...you are going to be with him FOREVER what is the big deal. My parents aren't divorced, but I know some of my friends' parents are and they have a similar outlook that Bella has in the book. So I get how Steph wrote that into the book, but Bella is just so crazy sometimes that it is frustrating....ahhhh. I'm done ranting now...thank you |
