| I believe there's a discussion on the trailer under the "General News" thread.
And when I heard her speak on the Host tour, Stephenie said that Midnight Sun isn't completed yet, since she's been busy with The Host and Breaking Dawn, but she did say it would be the next book to come out after BD.

Good explaination! Yeah, Carlisle probably would have just let her turn, but let Edward have the choice and ultimately make the decision. |
This is pretty much my understanding of the subject, too. Edward was the one who was closest to Bella, and it was rightfully his decision to decide whether or not he wanted his love to be turned into a vampire. At that point in time, he couldn't imagine her being "cold and dead."
I wonder if the scene had taken place later in their relationship (Eclipse or Breaking Dawn) would he have made the same one...

Hmm, thats a really interesting thought. Just imagine if somehow, in Eclipse Victoria had managed to bite Bella. Do you think Edward would have done the same thing? I'm betting he would have, just because he's so set on the marriage thing, and making sure that Bella deals with Charlie and all that first.
