Edward saving Bella at the end of Twilight.

Ok, this was just something I had been thinking about for a while, I don't know if it's been brought up or answered somewhere, but...
Why did Edward have to be the one to suck the poison out of Bella's hand after she was attacked by James? It would have been more logical (in my opinion) for Carlisle to do it since he's the only one totally in control over his thirst for blood. I just remember reading that part and thinking that that was a HUGE risk for Edward to take, trusting himself to stop once the poison was out and resisting the urge to kill her. Then I'm sure that just made it harder for him to be around her since he had actually tasted her blood and described it as better than he'd imagined (up until Eclipse of course, when he gets this under control).

I suppose it was just Stephanie wanting to show how much Edward loved Bella, that he was able to control himself and stop once the poison was gone...but, it just seemed strange to me that Edward would even take that risk and not tell Carlisle to do it just to be on the safe side. Any thoughts on this?

I'm pretty sure Carlisle asked Edward if he wanted to, and if it wasn't that, Carlisle was probably too busy cleaning up her other wounds to stop and suck the poison out.

Carlisle tells Edward that he has to do it, because he (Carlisle) has to take care of the wound on Bella's head. But I agree, it was a HUGE risk!

But wait, what about Alice? Why couldn't she do it?

Alice hasn't been around Bella as much, so she wouldn't have the control Edward would in comparison?

Oh...that's right. I forgot Carlisle was working on Bella's head. Ok, that makes sense...sort of. I mean, Edward went to medical school too, didn't he? Taking care of her head seems like it would have been easier for him, leaving her hand to someone else. But then again, Carlisle has the most experience.
I guess it makes sense that Alice wouldn't do it because she didn't know Bella that well. So maybe she just stood guard in case Edward lost control.

Also, we all know that Edward is pretty much almost in control of his vampire-bella-blood-lust-ness, and there had to be experiences that got him that way, and this was one of them. Maybe he figured this was one way of training himself to control himself.

I remember reading somewhere that Carlisle told Edward that he had to do it, and Stephenie said that it was Edwards choice to save Bella by either sucking the poison out or by changing her and that had to be Edwards choice at that moment. It was kind of a huge moment for Edward.

Stephenie made Edward suck out the pison becuase it was a cute. Wouldn't you want a hot vampire suck out vampire poison from your finger?
Also Edward was probably the most familiar with Bella's blood so maybe that made it easier then if Alice did. Cuz like Edward is around Bella more then Alice or Carlisle is.

I thought of it as an "aww" moment. lol. cuz it was at the point where you know Edward wouldn't want Bella to die and how strong his feelings were for her. because he was all begging for her to be okay and like sobbing tearlessly.
And about why Edward had to suck the venom out, yeah. Carlisle was preoccupied with stopping the blood.

Can someone point me in the right direction of the discussion on the Twilight movie trailer?

I'd like to complain about how all the lines in it are in all the wrong settings and a whole bunch of stuff, even though I'm impossibly happy they're making a movie on the book, the trailer looks like a complete disaster. It all types of WRONG.

I'm also wondering if anyone knows when Midnight Sun might be coming out? It doesn't say anything about when that might be finished on Stephenie Meyer's website. 20 pages of my heart melting.
